FAQs

Why the Service Charge?

We utilize a 22% Service Charge to avoid the traditional tipped minimum wage model which allows us to provide competitive, dependable wages. Our team can rely on steady income regardless of how busy it is or how generously each guest tips. It also helps us support benefits like paid time off to all of our hourly staff, including part-time employees. The same service charge on take-out may seem heavy-handed to some but whether we pour you a glass of water or answer the phone to take your order, wash the plate you ate off or package your salad into a clamshell and three compostable ramekins, there’s a person and hospitality involved in every experience.

We don’t love the service charge but it feels like the most logical solution until the whole restaurant industry moves past the tipped minimum wage model together. 🤞

DO YOU STILL EXPECT TIPS?

No, absolutely not. We don’t utilize the tipped minimum wage credit which means our entire team’s base wages already start above minimum wage and they don’t rely on the discretion of our guests for their livelihoods. Everyone knows exactly how much money to depend on each shift. There is a tip option though to accommodate the occasional guest who insists and when that happens it’s a nice surprise, not an expectation. These additional gestures are evenly shared among the hourly staff from the dining room to the dish room, everyone who inspired the extra gratitude in the first place. But repeat after us, no tips expected.

Do you take reservations?

We have a limited number of tables and are currently offering reservations for parties of 4. We hold space for walk-ins and the bar is first-come, first-served so solo diners, couples, or parties of 3 are still able to make a night of it. We can also accommodate parties of 5-10 in our nook as long as you don't mind sharing your personal space. For parties of 5+ email us at meet@littlegranddc.com.

Seatings are available in 1.5 hr blocks, so if anyone is late, no big deal. Just be aware that we still need to honor the next reservation and other hungry guests waiting to dine. Thank you for understanding!

DO YOU DO TAKEOUT or online ordering?

Yes! We offer takeout via Toast, in-person at the bar or at the Pick Up window, and by phone. We may not be able to make it to the phone in time and occasionally we may pause online ordering but try again after a few minutes. Also please note that we include the same 22% service charge on takeout as dine-in. We may not be pouring you a glass of water but we still staff accordingly for the additional hospitality involved to answer the phone, package the orders, confirm they’re correct, and make sure you have what you need. That revenue also goes toward packaging expenses.

Do you have delivery options?

Maybe one day but we currently do not do delivery.

Can you host PRIVATE EVENTS OR HAVE PRIVATE DINING SPACE?

From a semi-private event for a few hours in the nook or patio to a full buyout that gives you access to the whole space for the night, we have both “Little” and “Grand” options to host your special event. Whether it’s a book club, birthday, anniversary, happy hour, holiday party, or baby shower, email us at meet@littlegranddc.com to learn more.

What kind of pizza are you doing?

The kind of pizza we want to eat every day. They come in rounds and squares and are made of wholesome things. If we had to force a definition, we would say it’s our version of New York-ish rounds and Sicilian-ish squares taking inspiration from many great pizzas coast to coast. We use organic flours for our sourdough crust and work with regional millers as much as possible. We purposely minimize imported products, prioritizing high-quality ingredients from as close to home as possible.

Do you have fun merch or gift cards for sale?

We have two different t-shirt designs, a sweatshirt from a pop-up with our friends at Happy Ice Cream, and a hat. They’re currently only available for purchase in-house but gift cards can be found here.

What’s your story?

The abbreviated version goes something like: One day a patron of All Souls walked in and asked “Hey would you be interested in putting another All Souls in the Apollo Building on H Street?” David said, “Hmm...” Joanna and Soung said, “Why not?” We finally agreed “Yes let’s do it!” We also agreed it wouldn’t be another All Souls and that we wanted to have pizza. Our friend, chef, and pizza partner Bobby Hellen worked tirelessly with us on testing flour types, hydration percentages, fermentation times, tomatoes, cheeses, etc. Some are round and some are square and other than that we don’t have the words to describe what style it is. Not because it’s unique but because we like all kinds of pizza and aren’t interested in following a prescription. For us it’s simple: hot pizza, cold drinks, and warm people. To be cont….

Where EXACTLY ARE YOU?

808 7th Street NE Washington DC 20002

Very specifically, we are tucked into an alley off of 7th Street NE between H and I—come say HI!

More generally, here in DC, we are on the ancestral lands of the Nacotchtank people, later referred to as Anacostans by English colonizers in the 17th century. We mention this in hopes that confronting the past allows us to build a more inclusive future.
